New Music Weekend

Started looking for some new music as I lay in bed came up with a couple:

  • Three Days Grace - Life Starts Now (Interesting Title0
  • Vampire Weekend - Contra (like their first CD better)
  • Lady Antebellum - Need You Now (Yes, I like country)
  • Paramore (Like their first CD better, but need to listen to it more)
  • John Mayer (Kind of Douche in real life, but like his music. Listen to the song not the singer)

Frustration

Started to get sick Wed, ended up working from home on Friday. Just laid in bed and did e-mail. This is really frustrating because I had my workout schedule starting to flow and now I get sick. Same thing happen to me last Feb. To make matters worse I'm on the road the next 3 weeks and its going to be a struggle to get my workouts in. I'm packing my workout bag just in case, but worried that if I'm worn down I'm not going to get any better. But then I think I need to battle through this and get my workouts in. Even though my races are far off they are starting to worry me more. I'm trying to live more in the now and tell myself you sick there is nothing you can do about it so don't worry about it. harder said than done. Hopefully laying low all weekend I will get ahead of the cold and I will be feeling better this week and get a couple workouts in and I will back on the road to recovery and better attitude toward my progress.

P90X - Polymetrics (Wed) Thur no go so far

got up early and did Polymetrics on Wed. That was a big hard, but also kind of fun. I have a weird love hate with that workout. Woke up thursday feeling like crap. Don't know if its sinus or I'm getting a cold again. Other people in the office are feeling bad as well. I packed my Gym bag just in case I feel better later in the day or tonight.

P90x- Chest & Shoulders - Almost a puker

I got up early to get my workout in. I pushed it a little hard this morning and almost puked. Took a 2 min break and finished out the workout. My arms are sore from swimming yesterday. I'm a tired boy and then it took me an hour and a half to get in because everyone was slipping all over the road. Saw a couple of bad crashes. Took me nearly 2 hours to get home plast night because of spin outs.

I swam! (1000 yards 26 mins)

I stopped swimming after Tri season because I wanted to hit a 1000 miles. I started to get a mental block that I couldn't get back in the pool. I had all kinds of reasons. I'm doing P90x, I have time to get my swimming in, it's to cold. But then came today. I didn't even plan on swimming. The day started out bad. Couldn't get up to do P90x. (Going to do that tonight) Forgot my running shoes. Lucky I had a spare in the car. Got to the gym and my Garmin was dead. I had my suit, but I just didn't want to get in the water. Its cold and snowing outside and just was afraid of getting in the stupid pool. I went back to my Zen lesson. What is the best thing I can do right now. It was to swim so I put on the suit and jumped in the pool. Nothing great, but I'm happy I pushed myself to do it. Also the water felt good. I could feel the other exercises I was doing was helping my arm strength, but I still need to eat better.

Week Update

I have been falling behind on my blogging, but that is ok. I had a pretty good week. I got up early 3 times this week and worked out. That is one more than last week. I take that as a win. Ice fishing put a dent in my weekend training, but I didn't eat to much junk and didn't drink so I hope that saved some calories. Let's see how this week goes.

IMPORTANT NOTE FROM BRIAN
To the friends and fans of GB Leighton:

I've hit another crossroad in my life. Twenty years of the bar business has finally taken its toll on me, so...

I've checked myself into a 28-day program at Hazelden. I have tried outpatient programs, but have found that when I'm in treatment during the day and in a bar that same night facing my demons, it doesn't work. So I have to remove myself from bars altogher; I have to find the old Brian again. If I'm honest with myself and with my fans, it's a huge first step. Ironically, when asked 15 years ago in a radio interview where I'd see myself in twenty years, I jokingly replied "Hazelden". Be careful what you wish for. Honestly, though, I need to be healthy again, physically and mentally.

I apologize to my fans and to all the bars that are going to have to take a rain check for the month of February. I didn't plan this in my life. But now is the time to deal with it. Please know that as scared as I am, I am also very excited about my future and the future of GB Leighton.

I hope you see better shows from me with more energy and excitement. There's a huge light at the end of this tunnel. I'm chasin' it and I'm gonna stand in it soon.

I can't thank you enough for all the support you've shown me in my life.

I'm gonna miss ya!

Work Biggest loser

We had our first weigh in for works biggest loser. Not to happy with my weight. I really fell off he wagon during the holidays. Also with doing P90X and not running I haven't seen the weight lose I have had in the past. We will see how it goes.

Waking the Bear

This year has not started out as great as I would have liked. Don't know if its the winter blahs or what, but I feel like a bear that wants to hibernate all winter. I'm also cranky as a bear that has been woken up to soon.  Let's just say mornings are tough. I have tried to break that habit by trying to workout more in the morning. The first week I made it two times. The second week I made it three. I do feel better after I have accomplished my workout in the morning, but getting the first step out of bed is a doozy. So far the P90x has been going pretty well. I'm not doing it picture perfect but I like all the different exercises. I do have to do a little mind set shift. After years of running its hard for me to turn that urge off to accumulate miles each week. I look at Dailymile.com and see all my virtual friends logging their miles and I'm only putting up a couple miles a week. I really want to cross train more, but I can only do so much. I have already received comments from my kids that I have been working out more than hanging with them. I don't think that is true. I'm actually spending more time with them. If I miss my morning workout I do it as soon as I get home from work and then I spend the rest of the night with them. Mixing the new workout with work, and family I'm just a little pulled thin at the moment. February is not going to get any better. I'm going to be on the road for 3 weeks. Its going to be interesting to see how I can get my workouts in while being on the road. I have done it before. I guess I will do it again.
